About Sharrow Festival
------------------------------------------------------------
The free annual Sharrow Festival is a celebration of the many and diverse cultures that make up a very distinctive neighbourhood: people from the many different ethnic groups who live here; the musicians and other artists based in the area: the large population of students and the wealth of community organisations that work to safeguard and improve the lives of people in Sharrow: all come together at Sharrow Festival to share in the celebration.

Since it started in 1998 the festival has grown in size and reputation and taken on new features. Both the Community and the Music Stages now feature impressive line-ups with the emphasis on musical and cultural diversity. We have added a third 'stage' (the Chill Foo Stage) in the all-weather pitch, which has become a bastion of hip hop culture featuring djs, mcs, break dancers and a major legal live graffiti zone.

We also work hard at providing activities to engage young people with music and dance workshops, a climbing wall and an inflatable 5-a-side football pitch managed by Football Unites Racism Divides, to supplement the appeal of the hip hop zone. There are far more stalls now, with an immense variety particularly on the food side while the charitable and other 'good causes' stalls ensure that the festival acts as a window for organisations working to make positive changes to how we live.

The festival is now much more than a one day event with music based fund raisers taking place through the year and a number of events organised during the Sharrow Festival Fortnight.

The Sharrow Festival Committee organise the free annual Sharrow Community Festival in the Sharrow ward of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK.

The Sharrow Festival has been organised by local volunteers since 1996. We receive no statutory funding and we always welcome support and donations.

The Sharrow Festival comprises of the Festival Day in the Park ~ a full day of activity in Mount Pleasant Park held on the first Saturday in July ~ and the Festival Fringe ~ a host of community activities in Sharrow in the weeks either side of the Day in the Park.

The Festival is a flagship event in Sharrow which celebrates the culture and diversity of the area, providing opportunites for thousands of local people to experience a wonderful day in Mount Pleasant Park, find out about local groups and businesses, listen to some great music, eat a worldwide variety of food, have a go at the Football Unites Racism Divides Streetkick activities, watch some talented locals perform on the Community Stage - or perform themselves, follow the Festival on Sheffield Live 93.2 FM, go to the Hip Hop zone to watch live grafitti art....the list goes on.
